Privacy Policy

Briefly (“the App,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information.
This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how we keep it safe when you use the App.

1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
When you use Briefly, we collect and process only the information necessary to provide the app’s core functions, maintain security, and enhance performance. All data is handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy and relevant privacy laws.

We collect login credentials, which include your email address, a securely stored password hash, and authentication tokens generated when you sign in with email/password, Google, or Apple. This information is linked to your account and used solely to create and maintain a secure user session through our cloud authentication and database provider.

We create a user profile consisting of your name and email address (which may be your real email or an Apple private relay address) and a unique user ID. This profile information is linked to your account and is used only to set up and manage your account and personalise your experience. It is stored securely in our database.

When you create briefs, which are AI-generated summaries of the audio you choose to highlight, these summaries are linked to your account so they can be stored, retrieved, and displayed in your library. They are securely stored in our database and are never used for advertising or sold to third parties.

We process episode transcripts obtained from our podcast content provider to generate these briefs. Transcript segments are not linked to your identity and are cached locally on your device solely to improve performance and avoid repeated fetching. They are transmitted only to our AI processing service to generate the brief and are not stored beyond that limited purpose.

We also store podcast and episode metadata—such as titles, images, genres, descriptions, and episode IDs—supplied by the podcast content provider. This metadata is not linked to you and is used only to display episode information and support brief generation. A copy of this metadata is kept in our database for reference.

To ensure that the app functions correctly on different devices, we collect minimal device metadata, such as the operating system version and device type, using standard device-detection tools. This information is not linked to you and remains on your device for compatibility checks only.

For secure and seamless sign-in, we maintain authentication tokens that are linked to your account. These tokens are stored locally in secure device storage and validated with our authentication provider to keep you signed in between sessions.

For a smooth and responsive user experience, we use a query cache to temporarily store recently fetched episode data. This cached information is not linked to you and remains only on your device. It is automatically cleared when the app is uninstalled.

When you listen to an episode, the app accesses encrypted audio streams supplied by our podcast content provider. These audio links are used solely for streaming playback. We do not store the audio files or link them to your personal information.

All local caches, including query and transcript caches, are automatically removed if the app is deleted. We do not collect analytics for advertising, and none of the information above is used for behavioural tracking or marketing.

These providers receive only the information needed to perform their tasks and are bound by strict confidentiality and privacy obligations.
